# Delete an assistant

Requires `assistants:delete`.

Deleting an assistant has its own scope, `assistants:delete`, so a key that can create and edit assistants cannot remove them.

Deleting is permanent. The assistant's resources are kept. Conversations people had with it stay readable, but cannot be continued. An assistant that a [widget](/docs/widget/overview) answers for cannot be deleted: the call fails with `conflict` until you delete the widget or point it at another assistant.
